PRODUCT DOCUMENTATION

From the first node to a complete story world.

The currently available operation methods of Zhixu are organized here according to product area, scene mode and specific components. You can find components, properties, scenes, creative tools and shortcut keys layer by layer from the workspace entrance.

can search all operations and chapters on this page

01

GETTING STARTED

Quick start

When using it for the first time, first complete the shortest closed loop of "create project-create event-edit attributes-save to local".

  1. 1

    Enter the workspace

Start Zhixu and log in to the account. The program will internally check online or offline authorization; valid authorization will unlock the editing area. Accounts, plans, and redemption portals can still be used without valid authorization.

  2. 2

    Create or open a project

For new projects, use “File → New Data”. When continuing an existing project, use "Open Project Folder"; for legacy single JSON files, use "Import Data".

  3. 3

    Create the first event

First activate the "Story Scene" tab, then click "+ New" on the left and select "Event". The "Story List/Map List" on the left only filters the list and does not determine the new type.

  4. 4

Submit properties and save the project

After modifying the name, details and coordinates on the right, press Enter or click "Save" to submit the current component; press Ctrl S again to write the project to disk. Saving for the first time will ask you to select a location.

Single click is different from double click

Clicking in the left list will only select the component and display its properties. Double-clicking will focus the corresponding scene. In this way, the current perspective will not be frequently interrupted when browsing the hierarchy.

02

WORKSPACE

Get to know the workspace

Zhixu's main workspace consists of four adjustable panels. Story scenes and map scenes are usually combined in tabs. Which scene is activated will also determine which group of objects is displayed in the "New" menu.

01Hierarchy PanelSearch, select, organize, show and hide
02Story scene/Map sceneObserve, select, move, connect and map edit
03Inspector PanelEdit current objects and relationships

Activate scene

Click the "Story Scene" or "Map Scene" label to switch the work object. The new menu will switch to the story component or map component with the currently active scene.

Filter level

The "Story List/Map List" in the lower left only changes the content currently displayed in the hierarchy panel, and does not switch the central scene or change the new type.

Move and combine panels

Drag the panel title to change the docking position, side by side, form tabs or float. The window menu redisplays individual panels.

Restore default layout

If the panel position no longer suits the current work, restore the default arrangement from "Window → Reset Workspace Layout". The application records the workspace layout and visibility state.

03

PROJECT & HISTORY

Project, file and edit history

The commands in the File menu work differently: Open Project Folder, Import Old JSON, and Export Snapshot do not replace each other.

commandPurposeWill it change the current project location?
Save current dataWrite the current project back to the existing location; select the location when saving for the first time. The first save will establish the current location.
Open the project folderOpen the standard project directory, project.json needs to exist in the directory.will switch to the selected item.
Save as project folderCreate the current creation as a standard split project directory.will switch to the new directory.
New dataClear the current workspace and create a new project.Waiting for the first save to determine the location.
Import dataReads a legacy or external single JSON item; this is an open, not a merge.will make the selected file the current project.
Export dataExports the current content as a single JSON snapshot for easy exchange or backup.will not change the current project location.

Automatically restore recent projects

The program will try to reopen the last used project. The project text is saved in a location of your choice; window layouts, recent projects, and local preferences are saved in the system user configuration directory.

Undo and redo range

Common components, wires, maps, and views are edited into the project history. Toolbar buttons, Ctrl Z, Ctrl Y, and in-scene Ctrl Shift Z share the same history.

Local split saving

Standard project folders store story components, map components, component order, relationships and view settings respectively, which is suitable for continuous maintenance of large projects.

Old project compatible

Legacy single JSON projects can still be imported and later migrated to the current structure using "Save as Project Folder".

04

HIERARCHY PANEL

Hierarchy Panel

The hierarchical panel on the left side of the main interface centrally manages project objects. It first divides the modes according to "story list/map list", and then presents the corresponding components in each mode; search, selection, parent-child organization, sorting, show hiding and batch operations are all completed here.

Panel operation

Select mode first, then manage levels

List filtering does not equal scene switching

The "Story List/Map List" at the bottom only changes the display range on the left; "+ New" and the right-click New menu are still determined by the currently activated story scene or map scene.

Right-click a single component

You can create new components of the same level, create new child objects, select parent objects, move out of the current parent object, and delete components; you can also create new ones directly by right-clicking on blank spaces in the list.

Right-click multiple selected components

Can be displayed, hidden, copied and deleted in batches. Copying preserves parent-child relationships and event wiring within the selected subtree.

Story List

Story Mode Component

Story mode's "+ New" provides events, empty components, inspirations and entries; the coordinate axis is the basic component for automatic project maintenance and will not appear repeatedly in the ordinary new menu.

FAQ

Why doesn't Ctrl V copy components?

Ctrl V Clone the component only when the left hierarchy panel has focus. Click the list and select one or more components, then press Ctrl V. It is not a system clipboard paste and does not require pressing Ctrl C first.

Why does Delete not delete the current component?

Delete also only takes effect when the left hierarchy panel gets focus. Deletion will first display confirmation and include the selected component's sub-objects and related connections.

Why doesn’t the scene automatically fly after clicking the component?

This is by design: single click only selects and displays the properties, double click only focuses on the scene. This way you don’t constantly change the perspective when organizing the hierarchy.

Why does the New menu still show the story component when "Map List" is selected?

The story list and map list are only responsible for filtering the content on the left. Please activate the central "Map Scene" tab before opening the new menu.

How to move the map area along the world sphere?

Click the area to select it, double-click to enter the move mode, and then hold down the left button and drag. Release the mouse when finished; double-click the area again or press Esc to exit move mode.

How to modify the map area outline?

Press and hold Ctrl after selecting the spherical area. Ctrl drag control points to modify the outline, Ctrl double-click the edge to add control points, Ctrl double-click existing control points to delete; release Ctrl to return to normal operations.

How to quickly establish a relationship from the scene?

Quickly right-click and double-click on the story node to set it as the starting point, and then quickly right-click and double-click on the target node. A normal left-click will return to the selection state, so the target node must also be quickly double-clicked with the right button.

Why can't a node be moved by double-clicking it in a two-dimensional projection?

Two-dimensional projection only supports selection, translation and zoom. Please click "3D" next to the view cube to return to the three-dimensional scene, and then double-click the node to bring up the transformation axis.

Zhixu Do I need to be online to create?

Project editing, saving, name workshop and inspiration workshop all work locally. Account authorization is usually refreshed online; when the connection fails and the machine already has a valid signature certificate, it can be used offline within the real authorization period.

Can I open a previous single JSON project?

Yes. Use "Import Data" to open the old single-file project; you can later "Save as Project Folder" to migrate to the current structure.

Will the Inspiration Workshop automatically rewrite my story?

No. The current result will only go to the clipboard or project if you explicitly click Copy, Convert to Idea, or Convert to Event.
